It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Aurelio.
Aurelio dedicated over 50 years of his life to St. Mary’s University as the Official Scorer. Remarkably, during the 2024-25 season, at the age of 92, he celebrated his 40th year at Trinity University, working alongside his beloved daughter, Rebeca.
Many basketball officials will fondly remember Aurelio as a strong and comforting presence courtside, always considering himself as an extension of the officiating crew. His Official Scorer role extended to the Northeast Independent School District at Blossom Athletic Center (now Littleton Gym), the San Antonio Independent School District at the historic Alamo Gym, and Cornerstone Christian School.
Aurelio worked many of the most significant basketball games played in the San Antonio area, including the memorable U.S. Olympic Festival. His legacy and impact on the basketball community are profound, and his contributions to and influence on basketball officiating are irreplaceable.
